Every year, more than 750,000 hernia operations are performed in the United States in order to treat the pain that is often associated with a damaged hernia. However, those who had a hernia operation recently could be at risk for serious medical problems as a direct result of a hernia operation that was intended to help them. Since 2005, there have been several recalls on a popular product that has been used by surgeons in repairing ventral (incisional) hernias. The recall was for certain versions of the Composix Kugel Patch. Our experienced Pennsylvania Kugel Patch Lawyers can review your case and determine if you can file a lawsuit against the manufacturer.

Recall dates for the Kugel device includes:

  • Large Oval, 8.7” x 10.7”
    • December 2005 and January 2006
  • Extra Large Oval, 10.8” x 13.7”
    • December 2005 and January 2006
  • Extra Large Oval, 7.7” x 9.7”
    • December 2005 and January 2006
  • Extra Large Oval, 7.7” x 9.7”
    • December 2005 and January 2006
  • Oval, 6.3” x 12.3”
    • March, 24, 2006
  • Large Oval, 5.4” x 7.0”
    • January 10, 2007
  • Large Circle, 4.5”
    • January 10, 2007

In late 2005, Davol, Inc., the manufacturer of the device, issued a recall because the “memory recoil ring” that opens the device can rupture under the pressure of placement of the large sized products in the intra-abdominal space. As a result, patients with the device can be at risk for bowel rupture and or chronic intestinal fistulae. Since the original recall date, there have been 24 reports of broken rings with this product. Symptoms that could be associated with a broken ring include unexplained or persistent abdominal pain, fever, tenderness at the implant site or other unusual symptoms. If you experience any of these symptoms, you should seek medical attention immediately. Your doctor can advise you if your symptoms exist due to the defective product and our experienced Pennsylvania Kugel Patch Lawyers can help you bring your case to court.

The problem that can result because of a patch can lead to serious health problems and even death. No one should have to suffer because of the negligence of others. If you had a Kugel Patch implanted inside your body, you may be entitled to compensation. Our experienced Pennsylvania Kugel Patch Lawyers can make this determination based on the details of your case.
