Pennsylvania Fen-Phen Lawyers

While Fen-Phen was designed to treat the life-threatening condition of obesity, it has led to even more serious problems. The anti-obesity medication is made up of the drugs fenfluramine and phentermine from which its unique name is derived. These two drugs in combination reduced the desire to eat, but the side-effects are quite dangerous. Many people in the United States and Pennsylvania developed valvular heart disease and pulmonary hypertension as a result of using the prescribed drug. It is never too late to investigate recovery damages brought about by faulty prescription drugs. Our Pennsylvania Fen-Phen Lawyers can help bring the manufacturers of this defective diet pill to justice.

Fen-Phen leads to a deadly condition known as Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. Some symptoms of this condition include:

  • Shortness of Breath
  • Chest Pain
  • Unusual Fatigue
  • Fainting Spells
  • Leg Swelling

In the mid 1990's, doctors found that several of their patients who had taken the two drugs had malfunctioning heart valves. They found that 30 percent of patients using the diet pill had abnormal echocardiagrams which were used for testing the heart valve functionality. As a result of these findings, the FDA removed Fen-Phen from the market in September of 1997. However, countless people around the US, including Pennsylvania, had already been injured as a result of the anti-obesity medication by this time. The conditions brought about by this defective drug did not simply cause great disomfort, but sometimes even caused death. Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, a rare lung condition caused by the diet drug, is as of yet incurable and has claimed the lives of as many as 150 people across the country.

Prescription drugs should be meticulously tested before going to market. For a drug with such devastating side-effects to be made available to the public only shows that the manufacturers did not undertake due diligence in testing the product. Such negligence on their part has lead to great suffering on the part of their customers. American Home Products (Now known as Wyeth), the manufacturers of Fen-Phen, are responsible for any damages or losses incurred by the diet medication. Our Pennsylvania Fen-Phen Lawyers can help recover damages and file claims against the parties responsible.
